Bailey United Methodist Church, a growing congregation with an expanding ministry program located in Nash County, NC, sought the design services of GS Architecture to upgrade its facilities to address its space and programming needs.
The congregation identified five areas of need which were met by repurposing and renovating the existing facilities. The solutions included:
converting an under-utilized chapel into an open gathering space;
constructing a gallery corridor tying together the sanctuary, education wing, and Family Ministries Center;
converting a storage mezzanine in the FMC into a Media Center and a Youth room and constructing of a stair tower providing access to the mezzanine; and
renovating the existing nursery and Sunday School spaces.
In addition to the renovations, GS Architecture designed a 100-space paved parking lot and coordinated remediation of existing drainage problems on the property.
Construction began in February 2006 and was completed in May 2007.
Funding was provided in part by the NC Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church and a grant the from The Duke Endowment.
